 Thinking about Luke 10:38-42
We live in a Martha world. Martha busied herself preparing a meal for Jesus, Mary sat at His feet and learned. Martha was upset about Mary’s lack of activity, but Jesus commended Mary for doing the more important thing. Why is it that we have such a tough time getting at the feet of Jesus? Everybody’s busy in a multitude of ways…
   * We try to overachieve and “do it all.”
   * We are overridden with gadgets that “make life simple?”
   * We are bombarded with news in every corner of the world.
   * We’re surrounded by a world of moving pictures.
   * We’re worried sick about the turmoil in our world.
One of the most important lessons you can learn is the importance of spending time alone with God and his word. This is one of the most important disciplines of the
Christian life. It’s life-changing to find the feet of Jesus.
If we’re going to cut through the worry and the mess, we’re going to have to learn the discipline of solitude, of study, of finding a quiet place with God and His Word. Here are
some thoughts about this…
  1. Don’t make it a law, enjoy it under grace. When it’s a law in our lives, it’s just another burden to carry. We get to have time with Jesus because grace has freed us to do so.
  2. Do be disciplined. I know, sounds contradictory, but just make it happen. Force other things out of the way so you can find yourself at Jesus’ feet.
  3. Learn from Martha also - serving is good
as long as it  doesn't take the place of worshipping the Master.
  4. Find a place apart from everything else. For me, it’s away from the traffic flow in the house, the distractions, and the T.V.
  5. Find a time apart from everything else. For me, it’s early in the morning before my family wakes up and im getting ready for work or on my way to work. There are times at work when i have substantial wait time, waiting to get my truck loaded. Make the best use of
your time.
  6. Read Scripture. Follow a plan. Read the whole thing in a year but do it out of order as God leads you.
  7. Read devotional books. Swindoll, Spurgeon, Chambers, Baxter, and others are ok, just dont let those take the place of your scripture reading. I read sermons too.
  8. Listen quietly. We often don’t do this, but we need to hear even more than we need to speak.
  9. Pray. Make your requests known to God. Intercede for leaders and loved ones alike.
 10. Adjust your attitude under the Lordship of Christ to be submissive to God and joyful about life.
There are many more tips that could come. What works for you? What helps you focus on Jesus? How do you find time at His feet? What works to keep you centered on His will?
Ask yourself, how much time do you spend alone with the Son of God who gave his entire life for you.

stay in the fight.
Rest, if you have to, but don't quit.
May God Bless and Keep you

There is only one way to Heaven

Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." (John 14:6) http://blb.sc/002Vj3

Good works cannot save you.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)  http://blb.sc/002UZQ

Trust Jesus Christ today! Here's what you must do:

  1. Confess to God that you are a sinner, in need of a savior.

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23)   http://blb.sc/002T3j

"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Romans 5:12) http://blb.sc/002Uqg

"If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

 (1 John 1:10)  http://blb.sc/002NZl

2           Believe that Jesus Christ died for you, was buried, and rose from the dead.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) http://blb.sc/002KIL

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners. Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) http://blb.sc/002Uqg

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)  http://blb.sc/002O5E

Through prayer, invite Jesus into your life to become your personal Saviour.

"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:10)  http://blb.sc/002O5E

3     Turn from sin and Repent

Jesus said: "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

(Luke 13:5)  http://blb.sc/002q2Q

"And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:" (Acts 17:30) http://blb.sc/002SM0

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

 (Romans 10:13)   http://blb.sc/002O5E

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" (John 1:12)  http://blb.sc/002NJc

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)  http://blb.sc/002N2S

If you have received Jesus Christ as your Saviour, as a Christian you should:

  1. Read your Bible every day to get to know Christ better.

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)  http://blb.sc/002S3B

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (Psalms 119:105)  http://blb.sc/002y1g

  1. Talk to God in prayer every day.

"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

" (Matthew 21:22)  http://blb.sc/002bwg

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (Philippians 4:6)  http://blb.sc/002Vby

  1. Be baptized, worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a church where Christ is preached and the Bible is the final authority.

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" (Matthew 28:19)  http://blb.sc/002mxR

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
  (Hebrews 10:25)  http://blb.sc/002Pal

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" (2 Timothy 3:16)  http://blb.sc/002RWu

  1. Tell others about Christ.

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)  http://blb.sc/0036hZ

"For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!" (1 Corinthians 9:16)  http://blb.sc/002v2C

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16)  http://blb.sc/002StL
